Sustainable advancement in plastics

Sustainably produced plastics combine the many advantages of conventional plastic with the possibility of producing in an environmentally and resource-friendly manner. Polymer granules obtained from natural materials can make a major contribution here. Maurizio Ficcadenti talks about the possibilities and the challenges.

The beauty of cartonboard

It is well known that paper and cardboard are very sustainable packaging materials that have the best-functioning recycling loop. There are also many new developments in the cosmetics industry for high-quality, functional, and visually appealing packaging solutions.

Improving the carbon footprint

With further sustainable developments it is possible to reduce the negative impact of cosmetics packaging on the environment. Lighter packaging, recyclable or recycled raw materials and disclosure of life cycle assessments (LCAs) can achieve a lot here. Lyne Hélène Bouchard knows what is important.

For sustainable cosmetic innovation

So-called green chemistry is a relatively young discipline that can do a lot for environmental protection, especially when it comes to sustainability. Barbara Olioso shows what is behind it and how cosmetic products can benefit from it both in terms of content and image.

The challenge of recyclability

Experts continue warning us of the dangers threatening the planet. Governments, businesses, and individuals alike have become aware of the need to reduce waste. But where should they start? What are the main challenges? Are recycling solutions sufficient?

New ways with solid bars

Solid cosmetics, mostly in the form of bars, are not only on the rise in hair care. What are the advantages and where are possible pitfalls in development? Dr Barbara Olioso gives an insight into the background.

Sustainable stabilisation

If you want to manufacture products on a sustainable basis, you should also pay attention to microplastics in the formulations. To reduce the proportion of synthetic polymers that are difficult to degrade, other stabilisation systems, for example based on microcrystalline cellulose, can be used.

Out of the sea

Many active ingredients from the sea are known to be particularly effective. Algae are also such power packs, because they can filter and store many trace elements from seawater – and by the way, algae from sustainable management can contribute to environmental protection.

The challenge of eco-design

Anyone who focuses on sustainability when it comes to cosmetic packaging should not be satisfied with using outer packaging made from recycled paper. It goes much deeper in detail. Malgorzata Chomiuk explains what is involved in eco-design and what the real challenges are.
