Skin: ALPIN HEILMOOR EXTRACT™ reduces inflamm-aging and balances the microbiome

The latest in vitro study results show significant effects of ALPIN HEILMOOR EXTRACT™ (AHE) on the skin: the data indicate that AHE has an anti-aging effect (e.g. due to reduction of oxidative stress markers and AGE receptors), preserves the skin microbiota and balances it.
Our previous studies already showed the pro-inflammatory effects of AHE by inhibiting cytokines (TNFα, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8) and we now wanted to investigate this effect even further.
We determined the role of AHE in preventing aging and age-related diseases and suppressing oxidative stress by various in vitro studies. Age-related functional losses and diseases are associated with accumulation of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species. Data on investigating this impact indicate that AHE has an anti-aging effect due to reduction of oxidative stress markers (NO, 8-Iso) and PGE2 production. Further studies indicate that AHE is a potent inhibitor of ROS formation and RCAN1.
Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) seem to highly accumulate in extrinsically aged skin. Previous studies report that AGEs are accumulated in dermal elastin and collagens. Therefore, AGEs may influence skin aging. We observed, that that AHE reduces AGE-induced oxidative stress and inflammatory response by influencing the expression of antagonistic AGE-receptors, RAGE (downregulation) and AGE-R1 (up-regulation).
The skin microbiome is not only a complex cosmos in itself, but its unique composition is also different for each person. The interaction of the microorganisms located on the surface of the skin also plays a significant role for hair, hair follicles, glands and glandular ducts.
Regarding the skin compatibility of the active ingredient, it was found that AHE does not exert any harmful effect on the microorganisms of the skin: The results show that the germs of the skin microbiome remain in vitality and biodiversity, and the function of skin protection, which is established and maintained by the microorganisms, remains unaffected.
In addition, growth experiments showed that both Staphylococcus species and Corynebacterium species, grew faster in the presence of AHE than in its absence.
This can lead to a harmonization of the balance of the skin microbiome in local, dysbiotic systems.
