People’s needs and trends continually change while the wish list of end-consumers becomes increasingly diverse. A quick glance at opinion polls and social networks clearly shows one trend: environmental protection. Consumers are becoming more and more environmentally aware and are also looking for sustainable and environmentally compatible ingredients in cosmetics.
Therefore, having the environment in mind is priority for research and development at BASF. A future without leaving an ecological footprint is both goal and challenge.
At the SEPAWA congress 2018, BASF introduced Cegesoft® Peel, a product that not only nurtures the wellbeing of consumers, it satisfies their desire to protect the environment. Cegesoft® Peel offers an environmentally-friendly alternative to plastic microbeads. The round wax beads are mainly derived from natural and renewable resources and are readily biodegradable under OECD guidelines.
Organic products are also expected to perform and Cegesoft® Peel does just that. Compared to sharp-edged abrasives made of silica or cellulose, the beads developed by BASF are round and thus gentle on the skin. As a result, when being applied, they provide a pleasant, soft feeling while dead skin cells are being exfoliated, just as would be expected from a good peeling. Yet this time, respecting the environment.
