Responsible beauty with polyurethane film formers

Now more than ever, consumers are conscious of the sourcing and environmental fate of products they use. In response, the cosmetics industry is seeking out new solutions to reduce environmental impact and is striving for high performance with careful ingredient selection.  Polyurethane film formers have a lower environmental impact thanks to having the potential to biodegrade if released into the environment.
In particular, growing awareness of the effects of sunscreen on oceans is motivating important revisions in sun care products.  Innovative formulations now provide durable UV protection while helping to reduce damage to aquatic ecosystems.  Baycusan® film formers by Covestro are providing such sustainable solutions thanks to their SPF boosting, water-resistant and biodegradable properties.
Polyurethane chemistry also enables the design of polymers based on renewable feedstock. Containing over 50% carbon from plant biomass, the new bio-based film line Baycusan® eco fulfills the definition of a derived natural ingredient according to the ISO 16128-1 norm.
Baycusan® raw materials are therefore key ingredients for creating sustainable and high-performing cosmetic products. For further information, visit us at SEPAWA, booth A126 or contact us at cosmetics@covestro.com
