Trends and markets for the product developments of tomorrow
The future for product development is likely to involve a combination of design, art and networked integration which are all characteristic features of our age. What trends arise from this, what colourways and harmonies reflect the 2017/18 fashion season, where and how the key accents for the development of decorative cosmetics are set – these are all issues that trend researcher and colour-expert for the Germany Fashion Institute (Deutsches Mode Institut – DMI) Niels Holger Wien will examine in “Prospects 2017-18 – Zeitgeist, Farben, Materialien” (Prospects 2017-18 – contemporary tastes, colours and materials”). In his lecture, he will throw light on which characteristic materials, surfaces and textures exemplify the current taste for networked integration and whether they might be turned into statements for packaging design and graphics. Project Manager at EXALIS GmbH, Johanna Bouko, throws the beauty-products spotlight on the “Must Have Trends for 2017” and, in doing so, examines in more detail a number of innovations, colours, textures and packaging ideas.
Dr. Karl Lintner, Managing Director at Kal’idees Consulting poses in his lecture “Cosmetic – Quo vadis?” the question: “Where is there still scope for creativity of a kind which can continue to maintain its position in the marketplace?” and he examines the routes that are still open to suppliers of active ingredients and to end-product developers. There will be insights into ways of profiling oneself and one’s products in the market place that stand apart from the well-worn, traditional approaches.
Spotlight on international trends
The European cosmetics market is increasingly impacted by trends from numerous inter-continental markets, as well as needing to fit in with changes in various market conditions. The major skin-care trends in Korea and Japan will be one of the specific things to come under the microscope in the Specialist Programme at CosmeticBusiness 2016. Among the non-European markets, there is currently increasing focus on Iran. It is a country that is considered to be a new and important player in the Middle East, with huge international influence. Les Persiennes Consulting provides a prospective study for suppliers of fashion, beauty and luxury items, as well as an initial analysis of the trends and qualities of this young – and often unknown – emerging market in Iran.
Towards a digital cosmetics sector
The major theme for both afternoons at this year’s CosmeticBusiness will be the digitalisation of the cosmetics sector. The changed way we interact with customers, individualisation and personalisation, and the constant progress of digitalisation throughout the value-creation chain have created a revolution that has been felt throughout the entire cosmetics industry. Tabish Wani, Co-Founder M&W Partners Consulting is an an expert in this field. Wani’s lecture “Cosmetics Supply Chains 2020: Challenges and the Role of Data Analytics” will consider the role, significance and methods of data analysis as a basis for rational business decisions with a view to improving results. The talk will be based on actual examples.
Huge challenges arise with increasing digitalisation, social networking, ever more widespread mobile access to the internet and the emergence of ‘big data’, linked to powerful cloud technologies, suggests Karl-Heinz Land, Managing Director of neuland GmbH & Co. KG. In his specialist lecture, “Dematerialisation – the redistribution of the world at a time of digital Darwinism”, he provides some crucial new ideas for launching the digital revolution in your own company.
Digitalisation impacts on every aspect of life and cosmetics packaging is no exception. Packaging will, in future, be one of the essential elements in allowing the consumer 360 degree solutions. This heralds a whole new era for the retail trade and the service sector, just as much as for innovative new products. “Digitally empowered packaging – Morgen wird alles anders! (Tomorrow everything will be different!)” is the title of the relevant lecture, given by Karel Golta, Managing Director of Indeed Innovation.
Getting into ‘Industry 4.0’ is the subject of Stephan Oelker’s lecture. He is a scientist working in the Department of Data Analytics and Process Optimisation at Bremer Institut für Produktion und Logistik GmbH, part of the University of Bremen (BIBA).
