Some 400 million tonnes of plastic waste are produced globally every year, according to the United Nations. Around a third of this comes from packaging. Much of it is left in the earth, to become part of the fossil record of our era. Besides waste pollution, the generation of raw materials also causes harmful emissions. This is not a legacy we want to leave for future generations and the industry is working together on multiple levels to address climate change. Here, PCR is considered as part of the solution.

But it also means controlling certain parameters that make us feel older. Unfortunately, some factors can’t be controlled. It is impossible to fight against gravity, for example, which permanently influences the resistance of our tissues. Well, is it for sure?

Microbiota and photoageing

In recent years, the role of the cutaneous microbiota in modulating skin homeostasis has been described. Less well known is the role of the microbiome in protecting the skin from sun exposure. A healthy and balanced skin microbiota helps to protect the skin from the harmful effects of solar radiation. A microbiome that is out of balance can exacerbate photo-induced skin ageing. Researcher Òscar Expósito explains how a new ingredient can rebalance the skin and protect it from photo-induced ageing.
