A new 100% bio-based polymer has been developed to address both requirements and support the direction set by the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Made from renewable raw materials, the material is designed to provide performance comparable to conventional petrochemical-based plastics. Unlike many bio-based alternatives that require separate end-of-life pathways, it can enter the conventional plastics recycling stream. This could make it relevant for packaging applications where both renewable sourcing and recyclability are key material selection criteria. The polymer can be processed using established technologies, including extrusion, injection, rotational and blow molding. It can therefore be integrated into existing industrial manufacturing processes. Potential applications include packaging, cosmetics, food and beverage, and other consumer products. According to the developer, the material is also food-contact compliant in the EU, US, Canada, and Asia.
