In order to replace plastic, Stora Enso is introducing a renewable and climate-friendly paperboard tube for cosmetic creams. Combating climate change and reducing the environmental impacts of packaging are both are high on the agenda for cosmetic brands.
The new paperboard tube created by Stora Enso can be used as primary packaging for skin cream products and is both renewable and recyclable. This novel packaging supports cosmetics brands in reaching their sustainability targets.
The paperboard tube body reduces the use of plastic by 70%.
The body of the tube is made from a barrier-coated, grease-resistant paperboard, which makes it suitable for skin creams. Currently, making the body of the tube from paperboard reduces the use of plastic by 70% compared with a plastic tube. Stora Enso wants to go further and therefore is now developing bio-composite materials to replace the plastic cap and shoulder of the tube in the future.
Stora Enso cooperates with the global tube machinery manufacturer Aisa for the production of the tubes. They tested the runnability of the board on Aisa’s machinery to ensure flawless and efficient converting performance.
