Vietnam is a key opportunity market, forecast to see the highest CAGR*, albeit with low spend per capita according to Mintel’s latest global sun care research highlights. Other important markets with above-average forecast growth include China, Indonesia, Russia and Thailand. Meanwhile, there is a considerable potential for niche mousse and stick formats and textures which lend differentiation to a market driven by lotions, sprays and creams. More disruptive formats, as seen with the new Dragon Fruit Waterful Sun Stamp with a sponge applicator also have room to expand. Below is a selection of interesting products taken from Mintel’s GNPD**.

Biotherm waterlover - The eco-tested formula is 95% biodegradable
skinfood dragon - The sun block has a sponge applicator
tarte Mousse - Tarte’s self-tanner is a foaming mousse

Sun block with sponge applicator

In South Korea, Skinfood’s Dragon Fruit Waterful Sun Stamp SPF50+ PA+++ is an easy-to-carry water sun block that hydrates, cools, soothes, and delivers sun protection, while also offering a moisturised and fresh appearance. The product contains dragon fruit extract, as well as Alaskan glacial water. Part of the range is Powerful Sun Essence SPF50+ PA+++.

Sun care for the vegan

In the USA, Tarte released Glow with the Faux Foaming Self-Tanner, said to foam into a lightweight fuss-free mousse to deliver a healthy streak-free, buildable and deep tan in no time, with an application mitt preventing a messy application. The easy-to-use formula features aloe to soothe and condition skin, witch hazel to soothe without disrupting the natural moisture balance, black walnut shell extract, which is rich in antioxidants and beneficial fatty acids to promote overall skin health, and PureShield scent control technology to ensure a ‘no icky’ self-tanner smell, replenishing fatty acids as well. Suitable for all skin tones, this vegan, foolproof express self-tanner is hypoallergenic, free of alcohol, fragrance and oil.

Sun milk for waterlovers

In France, Biotherm Sun Waterlover Sun Milk SPF 50 is claimed to be the brand’s first eco-designed sun milk with no compromise on sensoriality. This product, which is respectful of aquatic life, contains eco-tested SPF filters and a 95% biodegradable base formula for a lower impact on the water environment to help keep the ocean and the beach clean. Suitable for the entire family, for use on face and body, it features a water-resistant hydrating formula with Mexoryl SX and XL complex sun filters for efficient UVB/UVA protection. It also utilizes Biotherm’s Sun Sea Wind Repair Technology, a combination of soothing and regenerating life plankton, and antioxidant vitamin E. The sun milk leaves no white traces, while offering a scent of Pulpe de Soleil. The 100% recyclable pack is made with 13% reduced plastic.

Pad self-zanner for gace

In the US, the Dr Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha Beta Glow range is said to allow users to reveal a healthy glow with multi-faceted treatments that reinvent self-tanning by exfoliating and hydrating in one step. Relaunched as part of the range is Pad Self-Tanner for Face, a gradual tanning towelette for the face that gives customisable, buildable colour while providing exfoliating and anti-ageing benefits.Q
