According to Mintel, safety conscious consumers are fuelling the market for sensitive skin products. Often, products marketed for sensitive skin are likely to be associated with quality.
As many as 60% of consumers in India categorise their skin as sensitive and avoid buying some products due to safety concerns while 87% of Chinese consumers think it’s important to research ingredients to make sure they are safe. Over a third of US skincare users believe that claims indicating a product is safe for sensitive skin denote a higher quality product. Looking ahead, expect to see brands innovate further around the skin barrier as a fundamental concept for NPD in this area, including multiple barriers, supplementation and regulation of minerals. With multiple ingredient combinations being mainstream; derivatives and pairing with botanical ingredients will drive innovation.
