Carefully planned trials are essential for generating reliable data, successful product development and achieving a robust scale‑up. However, in practice, it has become clear that many test results are barely usable.
Why? Errors often occur right at the planning stage – when selecting machines and tools, defining batch sizes and recording data. Errors are especially common during scale-up. When time‑dependent process steps (swelling, dissolving, thickening), surface‑dependent processes (heating, cooling), or filling‑level‑dependent processes (de‑aeration, aeration) are involved, the trial must be organised in a completely different way. Otherwise, the results cannot be meaningfully transferred, leading to incorrect decisions during scale‑up.
