Eco solutions for compacts and tubes, new dispensing options and process improvements are the new developments to be presented at this year’s PCD exhibition from January 30–31 in Paris.

Corpack will show new compacts and lipsticks developed in conjunction with the cork-based Sughera material. This material consists of 70% natural cork and 30% rubber-blend. It can be produced in countless shapes and selected colours. The velvety, soft-touch surface of the cork material makes interaction with the package a sensually pleasant experience. The Sughera components can be individualised and refined by various decoration techniques, such as embossing, silk-screening and UV printing.

CTL’s Green tube created from sugar cane grown in controlled areas
CTL’s Green tube created from sugar cane grown in controlled areas

CTL Packaging’s collection of tubes manufactured with the Easy Supply Technology illustrate the main monuments of the French capital. The tubes present the same gradient background with a metallic finish effect that highlights the beauty of the monuments.

In addition, the sustainable options include the Green tube of 100% sugar cane origin and the PCR version, which contains 50% recycled source material. The Green tube is an extruded tube created from sugar cane grown in Brazil, in controlled areas and far from the Amazon rainforest. It maintains the same properties of PE of fossil origin, and can be decorated with stamping, screen printing or offset. It produces a lower environmental impact due to the reduction of CO2 gas emissions. The origin of the PCR Post-Consumer Recycled tube, with up to 50% of the skirt made with virgin material, comes from recycled packaging. It promotes the circular economy by reintroducing waste into the production chain. It offers an innovative image at the same price of a PE tube.

Neopac’s tube from renewable materials
Neopac’s tube from renewable materials

Neopac will showcase the latest addition to its EcoDesign to satisfy customer desire for more sustainable packaging materials. These recycled tubes are made from a body and shoulder mixture containing up to 75% recycled polyethylene plastics. The recycled material contains 50% PCR from closed loop milk bottle recycling as well as post-consumer household waste collected in Western European countries. The tubes’ caps are made from 100% ocean plastics PP materials derived from sea ropes. In addition, the tubes are decorated using solvent-free colours and low-solvent varnishes that are exclusively UV cured.

Other tubes in the company’s EcoDesign portfolio includes Sugarcane, which is made from renewable raw materials and offers the same characteristics and processability as fossil-based polyethylene; and Picea, which is comprised of 95% renewable material in the tube body and shoulder – including 10% of spruce wood from wood waste in sawmills, and 25% from PIR (post-industrial recycled) material from tube laminate production waste.
