When choosing cosmetics, consumers are looking for products that are multi- purpose and deliver greater value, whether that is improving skin texture, volumising hair or simply offering improved convenience.
One of the huge hits of 2015 was Clarins Lip Oil, containing hazelnut and jojoba oils for their softening and nourishing properties, as well as two copolymers to provide substantivity. It quickly became a favourite with beauty bloggers and was soon out-of-stock in stores.

The formulators at the Cornelius lab used the Clarins product as a benchmark to create their own lip oil and succeeded in formulating one, which has a subtle shine and nourishing feel, without being sticky. It contains natural oils along with Olvea® Silky Shea, a shea ester that imparts a velvety after-feel.

Oils that offer multi-benefits are a must for today’s busy consumer. To address this demand, Cornelius formulators created the Magical Hydration Oil, which featured as part of their festivals kit. It is a great all-in-one oil which can be used to hydrate and soften skin and hair. It contains the natural oils jojoba, argan, avocado and castor, as well as Cetiol® Ultimate, a very good example of a dry, light ester that creates a dry smooth texture finish to this product.

Recently launched Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour All-Over Miracle Oil has also been designed for use on the face, body and hair. This versatile formulation contains hydrating tsubaki oil.

For use in the bathroom, foaming shower oils have created a buzz as they are very convenient – washing and moisturising in one easy step. L'Occitane Almond Foaming Shower Oil is one option but more affordable versions such as Sanctuary Wash Oil and No.7 Luxurious Foaming Shower Oil are also available.

In response to this trend, the Cornelius lab created a rich foaming shower oil which uses the water-free anionic surfactant Plantapon® AF to produce a rich foam, whilst added plant oils soften and moisturise the skin.

Shampoos that contain luxurious oils are also proving popular. They combine cleansing and moisturising in one simple step. Redken’s Diamond Oil shampoo for damaged hair contains smoothing coriander oil, camelina oil, which fortifies the hair shaft encouraging shine and apricot oil to penetrate to the core of the hair fibre. Lamesoft® OD is an oil depositing micro-emulsion which is easily incorporated into shampoo formulations to give a similar effect.

When creating an oil formulation, Cornelius strives to produce an effective formulation that appeals to the consumer. We have a large portfolio of raw materials, including many natural oils with skin care benefits. When formulating, these can be combined with superior skin feel esters to produce an effective formulation, which also feels good to use.

Cornelius partners with world leading manufacturers in the development and production of cosmetic raw materials, developing an excellent range of new and exciting ingredients.

Complementing its diverse range of cosmetics ingredients, Cornelius delivers innovative raw materials for the hair, skin, sun, wash and oral care markets.
