Bayer MaterialScience was honored at the leading Chinese trade show for cosmetics, the Personal Care and Homecare Ingredients (PCHi) in Shanghai, for the development of innovative hair care solutions with the film-forming agent Baycusan® C 1008. Care products formulated with this polyurethane dispersion are proven to protect hair against extreme heat. They also prevent hair from frizzing and are capable of “cementing” split ends. The jury awarded the prize in the category “Functional Ingredients” in recognition of these outstanding properties.

Protecting hair against heat is becoming increasingly important in light of the current “sleek look” trend. Millions of women treat their hair every day with straightening irons that reach temperatures of up to 230 °C. The microscopic damage that soon occurs under these harsh conditions leads in the long term to split ends, reduced shine and even hair breakage. Conditioning products containing Baycusan® C 1008 coat and protect every single hair fiber, yet wash out easily without leaving behind any residue.

The styling properties of the film-forming agent are also impressive. Formulations retain their anti-frizz properties for up to 24 hours, even in weather with 90 percent humidity. They are also able to rejoin split ends.
