The right care for every hair

Considering the diverse needs and demands of today’s global market, for manufacturers to succeed it is essential to offer innovative products that combine perceivable performance, such as conditioning properties, repair effects and sensorial benefits. Formulators also need to take different hair types into consideration – Asian consumers, for example, have different needs from hair care products compared to those of consumers with Caucasian hair.

Argan Oil

A natural shine enhancer

DSM Nutritional Products have re-launched their bio-active ingredient Argan Oil for hair and skin care products – this time with organic certification from Ecocert* and NaTrue*. This 100%-natural ingredient has been demonstrated in tests to give hair a more silky shine than that offered by market-leading shampoo and conditioner formulations.

Market Germany 2011

A slight increase for beauty care and household products

According to a forecast made by the IKW, in 2011 consumers spent almost 12.6 billion Euros on beauty care and 4.3 billion on household cleaning chemicals. This equated to a growth in the total market for beauty care products, compared with 2010, of over 100 million Euros or 0.8 percent, and an increase of 19 million or 0.5 percent for household products.

Close to nature, and effective at the same time

A unique active substance makes it possible

Beiersdorf, working together with the company Exsemine, have isolated an extract with a particularly high arctiin content from the biologically cultivated Arctium lappa nuda. When included in a cosmetic formulation and applied on a regular basis, the burdock fruit extract achieves visible wrinkle reduction in vivo.

Cosmetic Oils

Penetration and occlusion properties of paraffin oil and vegetable oils

Dr. Matthias Hauser presents two studies in which the skin penetration and occlusive properties of vegetable oils and paraffin oil were compared with the help of in vivo methods. All oils penetrate only into the upper layers of the stratum corneum, enhance moisture retention, allow the skin to breathe and do not clog the pores. As paraffin oil is inert it is recommended for the use on allergic and atopic skin.

Sample packaging can be really sexy, like a perfume sampler as a chain enveloped in a Swarovski crystal studded sheath. In addition samples must, despite a seductive external appearance, be highly functional, even if they are only in the form of a free insert in a magazine. Sun Care

Although the winter still holds short, grey days in store for us this selection of sun care formulations will hopefully turn our thoughts to sunnier summer days.

In line with the successful and uninterrupted progress of natural cosmetics the following formulations should stimulate a fair degree of interest: Natural Sun Lotion SPF 20 from Croda, Mineral Sun Protection SPF from Nordmann, Rassmann and Ecocare + Sunshield Sun Oil SPF25 from SQM Saequim Comercial Quimica Masso, as well as the Natural Balanced Sunscreen with Ecocert Materials from Kobo, the W/O Sunscreen (Organic Absorber Free) from Shin-Etsu Silicones and After sun care (Natural label) from Solabia.

To give us all a feel of summer Lubrizol Noveon Consumer Specialties has developed Creamy Pre-Sun Gel. And Sisterna also offers a pretaste of the summer with Self-tanning foam (leave on). For fans of spray-on sun care there is also an interesting selection of ideas. Specially for spraying onto the hair is Evoniks Sprayable sun protecting hair milk. The Cucumber Cool Sun Spray from John L Seaton holds out the promise of a pleasant, cooling spray, and Arizona Chemical presents the Sprayable Sunscreen Oil, SPF 15.
