Folic acid
New route for anti-ageing
Aline Hueber, Junior Marketing Manager at DSM, shows in what respect folic acid is an effective ingredient in the fight against skin ageing, including photoageing.So far folic acid has not been used a great deal in cosmetics products, mainly due to difficulties in formulation. DSM, the only Western producer of folic acid, has now developed methods to overcome those obstacles so that detailed procedures are available as formulation guidelines.

Safety evaluation and regulation
A hot potato
Safety evaluation is taking on much more significance than previously in the draft EU Directive. As a result there was a significant desire for additional information in the varied programme of presentations at the recent "Karlsruhe Cosmetics Meeting", where the main theme was the "Safety Evaluation of Cosmetics Products". COSSMA editor Angelika Meiss asked Dr. Gerd Mildau, director responsible for cosmetics chemicals at the Karlsruhe office for chemical and veterinary product analysis, about the practical implications that emerged from the conference.

The toiletries and personal care market in Latin America is booming right now. According to Euromonitor, in the last five years alone the 20.789 billion US Dollar turnover seen in 2002 doubled to 41.194 billion in 2007.
