Striking designs with metallic effects
Brighter times ahead
Anyone analysing international trends in the field of packaging print ahead of the Interpack and Drupa exhibitions will soon see that high quality design and decoration are still driving the packaging business. Metallic effects in particular feature strongly in cosmetics packaging for high-end and, increasingly frequently, for medium priced products. This would appear to give brands relatively little scope for product differentiation at the point of sale, but in fact new techniques have broadened the spectrum as well as making it economically more flexible, as is explained by Stephan Bestehorn, MD of the Rlc Packaging Group.

A rotary system with robots
Lipgloss and mascara are two products that call for special skills and experience when filling, in particular because of their viscosity. In addition various sizes and shapes of container, that are supplied on trays in variable and unspecified positions, have to be carefully, and faultlessly fed to the automated filling process in an orderly manner. For this type of application Kugler develops and supplies suitable packaging machinery solutions, including robotics.

Our formulations special in this issue brings you some exciting new ideas for colour cosmetics. In the field of powder formulations there is, for example, a Face Powder with UV-Protection by Merck, which is ideal for the coming springtime. For a summery tone, without sun protection, the Sunny Complexion Powder For Oily Skin from National Starch looks promising. Nordmann, Rassmann presents another powder formulation – Pressed Powder with Honeywell Asensa. The Evonik formulation goes a step further: their creamy make-up High Solid Cream-to-Powder Foundation changes into a powder only after application, imparting a velvety skin feel.
The very varied mix of basic formulations that have been specially submitted for this issue by ingredients manufacturers can be downloaded free of charge from our web site. You will find your access codes on the Internet button on page 3 and 48 of the printed edition in April.
