COSSMA editor Angelika Meiss asked Dr. Gerd Nohynek, a recognised world authority on nanotechnology and Scientific Director Global Safety at L’Oréal, whether consumer fears are in any way justified.

Liposomes

Laboratory technology

Measuring the viscosity of cosmetics products

Creams, lotions, lipsticks and soaps must all be submitted to rheology measurement as part of the QA process. The rotational rheometer is the most widely used technique. It is based on sound scientific theory and is easy to use. Nevertheless certain questions arise in practice. What, for example, is the appropriate measurement system to use? Formulations

Personal cleansing

Our formulations special in this issue brings you some exciting new ideas for personal cleansing products. The Rain Forest Body Wash from Croda and the Body Polish India from Impag sound very exotic. The Cookies & Cream Skin Polishing & Slimming Cream from Lubrizol, on the other hand, sounds positively mouth-watering. If the formulations do what they promise they will fulfil many of the consumer's wishes.

The very varied mix of basic formulations that have been specially submitted for this issue by ingredients manufacturers can be downloaded free of charge from our web site. You will find your access codes on the Internet button on page 3 and 51 of the printed edition in March.
