Dr.Veronique Delvigne, Scientific Director at Lancôme, explains the product concept behind Lancôme's "Dreamtone". The company wanted to offer a skin care solution not a make up solution which would remove dark spots and skin colour iregularities. "Dreamtone" is designed to be a complete solution which also adds a touch of radiance to the skin and offers a high level of efficacy in a safe manner, which is also suitable for sensivite skin. When asking consumers what they see to be a "beautiful skin tone", most mentioned that they want a very even skin tone, not a "mosaic" skin. Lancôme wants to offer a product which allows the consumer to wear her own skin whithout covering with make-up. The major challenge when realising "Dreamtone" was to understand what happens in the biological process that creates dark spots and pigmentation disorders and what what is the skin biology is: How exactly do the melanocytes work? Which other "players" cells involved in pigmentation process? To target the different areas involved, a combination of active ingredients where use, targeting the melanocytes, to reduce the inflammation process and to enhance the skin's structure. Lancome focuses on some main fields of research, such as genomics, protein synthesis, but also stem cell research. The company thinks that stem cell research is important because stem cells play a major part in the regenration process which is fundamental for skin biology.
